Afshan Ajmiri Giner is an Associate Attorney in our Rochelle Park office concentrating her practice in education law, municipal and public sector law, and labor and employment law. As an experienced school board attorney, having previously worked in a boutique education law firm in Bergen County, she counsels local boards of education, providing clients legal advice and guidance on board governance, administrative and operational activities of school districts, Federal and State education laws, student entitlements, special education, and labor and employment matters. Afshan frequently represents boards of education in litigation and in matters pending before State and Federal adjudicative bodies. Afshan also conducts trainings and presentations for clients and professional associations on a myriad of legal topics and issues.
Prior to joining the firm, Afshan worked at the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) where she gained substantial knowledge in education law and policy. Afshan managed school law cases and administrative appeals filed with the Commissioner of Education, recommended outcomes on matters pending before the Commissioner, and drafted final agency decisions for the Commissioner. In addition, Afshan supported the NJDOE’s rulemaking initiatives for various chapters under N.J.A.C. 6A, working closely with members of the NJDOE’s executive team and stakeholders, drafting proposed regulations and amendments, and making policy recommendations.
Afshan began her legal career as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Lourdes I. Santiago, J.S.C., Superior Court of New Jersey, Hudson Vicinage, in the Chancery and Civil divisions. During her clerkship, Afshan also served as a Court-appointed mediator.
Afshan is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, School Law Committee, the New Jersey School Boards Association, the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey, the Asian Pacific American Lawyers Association of New Jersey, and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. Afshan serves as an Alumni Mentor to current law students at her alma mater. Afshan is also an Attorney Mentor for NJLEEP’s Constitutional Law and Debate Program in Newark, NJ, and the HBA-NJ’s American Dream Pipeline Program in Union City, NJ.
