Afshan Ajmiri Giner, a Partner in the New Providence office and Co-Chair of the Firm’s Education Practice Group, focuses her practice in education/school law, labor and employment, and representation of local governments/public entities.
As an experienced Board Attorney, Afshan counsels local boards of education and school districts on board governance, school district operations, statutory/regulatory compliance with State and Federal laws, labor and employment, student entitlements, and special education. Afshan represents boards of education in labor negotiations, litigation, and in matters pending before State and Federal adjudicative bodies. She also conducts legal trainings and presentations for clients and professional associations.
Afshan’s subject matter expertise is further reflected in her time at the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE), where she reviewed matters pending before the Commissioner of Education, recommended outcomes, and drafted final agency decisions. In addition, Afshan supported the NJDOE’s rulemaking initiatives, providing policy recommendations and legal considerations on proposed regulations and amendments to various chapters in N.J.A.C. 6A.
Afshan is a former law clerk to the Honorable Lourdes I. Santiago, J.S.C. (Ret.), Hudson Vicinage. She serves as an Alumni Mentor to current law students at Rutgers Law School. She is also an Attorney Mentor for NJLEEP’s Constitutional Law Debate Program in Newark, NJ, and the HBA-NJ’s American Dream Pipeline Program in Union City, NJ.
Afshan is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, School Law Committee; the New Jersey School Boards Association; the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey; and the Asian Pacific American Lawyers Association of New Jersey.
