Christine Soto and Caitlin Pletcher Discuss Special Education and Distance Learning at the New Jersey School Boards Association Workshop 2020

On October 22, 2020, Florio Perrucci Steinhardt Cappelli Tipton & Taylor Education Law Group Partners, Christine Soto and Caitlin Pletcher, and firm associate, Reema Chandnani, presented Bridging the Gap: Special Education and Distance Learning at the New Jersey School Boards Association Virtual Workshop 2020.

Christine and Caitlin discussed equity in education and sought input from the firm’s clients, our special education experts, through an interactive question and answer session. The following clients participated on the panel:

·        Dr. Melody Alegria, Assistant Superintendent of Special and Youth Services of the School District of South Orange and Maplewood;

·        Kim Conti, Director of Special Services of the Township of Union Public Schools;

·        Dr. Michele Tiedemann, Director of Special Education of the Middletown Township Public School District; and,

·        Jill Trainor, Chief School Support Officer of the Camden City School District.

The panelists shared success stories and offered insights and recommendations for addressing the everyday challenges facing all school districts when serving the most vulnerable population of students during this pandemic.

The New Jersey School Boards Association Virtual Workshop 2020 is the largest virtual training and information event for school officials in New Jersey. It is also the first statewide education conference taking place in the new school year.
