Former New Jersey Governor James J. Florio, a Founding Partner of Florio Perrucci Steinhardt Cappelli Tipton & Taylor, will receive the Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award at the Hughes Center Honors on November 14, 2019. The event will take place from 5:30 – 8:30 pm at the Seaview, a Dolce Hotel, in Galloway Township, New Jersey. Tickets are available to the public. Former New Jersey Governor, Christie Whitman will also receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the November 14 event. Other honorees are Mark Giannantonio, President and CEO of Resorts Casino Hotel; Sharon Schulman, Founding Executive Director of the Hughes Center; and Ike Ejikeme, a recent Stockton University graduate. Past Lifetime Achievement Award recipients include the late former New Jersey Gov. Brendan Byrne, former Gov. Thomas Kean, and Ambassador Hughes, who was presented his award in 2017 by former Vice President Joe Biden.

The Hughes Center Honors recognizes outstanding New Jerseyans for excellence in their field and for a commitment to public service, civility and bipartisanship that reflects the life and career of Ambassador William J. Hughes. Ambassador Hughes served as U.S. ambassador to Panama and as a U.S. congressman for 20 years. The awards program is sponsored by the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy at Stockton University.

“The loss of Bill Hughes and all the good he represented should cause us to rededicate ourselves to the values he and his center stand for. I accept this award in that spirit,” says Governor Florio.

Governor Florio, based in the Cherry Hill office of Florio Perrucci Steinhardt Cappelli Tipton & Taylor, is Chairman of the firm’s energy, environmental law, government and regulatory affairs and the healthcare law groups. Serving as the 49th Governor of the State of New Jersey from 1990 through 1994 and in the United States House of Representatives from 1974 – 1990, Gov. Florio has enjoyed a long and distinguished career. He is a Senior Fellow for Public Policy and Administration at the Edward J. Bloustein Graduate School of Public Policy at Rutgers University. He serves on the Board of Directors of the NJ Health Care Quality Institute, is Co-Chairman of the Regional Plan Association’s New Jersey Committee, and a member of the Board of Trustees Fund for New Jersey. He holds numerous honorary degrees and was the 1993 recipient of the “Profile in Courage Award” by the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation. In 2008, he was designated as a Lifetime Honoree Member of the New Jersey Short Line Railroad Association. Gov. Florio graduated from Trenton State College, received the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship from Columbia University, and earned his law degree from Rutgers School of Law – Camden.
