Seth Tipton & Sarah Powell Author New Book – “New Jersey Cannabis Regulation”

We are pleased to announce that firm partners, Seth Tipton and Sarah Powell, have authored the book: New Jersey Cannabis Regulation. Published as special collaboration between the New Jersey State Bar Association and Lexis Nexis, New Jersey Cannabis Regulation is the first and only book of its kind focused on New Jersey cannabis law.

Tipton and Powell write about their first-hand experience in dealing with New Jersey’s complex medical and recreational cannabis laws and regulations.

According to the publishers, “New Jersey Cannabis Regulation is clearly written and offers expert insight on the licensing of both recreational and medical marijuana dispensaries, civil liability under New Jersey law, the impact of federal law, as well as workplace and other compliance issues for growers, retailers, and wholesalers.”

About the Authors

Tipton is Chair of the firm’s Cannabis Law Practice Group and is a leader in the field of cannabis law.  He has represented applicants for medical cannabis permits in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, guiding them on private capital raises, application requirements, and real estate acquisitions and approvals. Tipton counsels clients on all aspects of formation and compliance for cannabis companies, from start-ups to multi-state operators. For example, he was counsel for Keystone Releaf LLC in a successful appeal of denial of a medical marijuana application, and he was counsel for successful applicants for medical cannabis dispensaries and cultivators in the 2019 New Jersey Department of Health request for applications. He is the immediate past co-chair the New Jersey State Bar Association Cannabis Law Special Committee, and an instructor for NJ Canna Certified where he teaches cannabis law basics to students at many of New Jersey’s community colleges. In 2022, Tipton was ranked 5th on Insider New Jersey’s The Insider 100: Cannabis Power List which is a tribute to politically influential voices in New Jersey’s cannabis movement.

Powell, a Partner with the firm and a member of the firm’s Cannabis Law Practice Group, has extensive experience advising clients regarding the licensing process and other regulatory issues at both the state and local levels.  Powell’s knowledge of and experience with the cannabis space and its quickly evolving statutes and regulations is expansive. She has handled numerous appeals by cannabis businesses against state and municipal agencies and is currently assisting with a pending petition for certiorari before the New Jersey Supreme Court on several nuanced due process issues in the cannabis business licensing process. Her regulatory knowledge, combined with her corporate, litigation, and real estate background, make her particularly skilled at serving the many needs of both emerging businesses and large companies in the cannabis industry.
